Getting started

Importing monitors

Bring the list you already have — pasted, from a spreadsheet, or straight from Oh Dear — through one preview.

Monitors→Import. All three ways end in the same list, checked line by line before anything is created, so there is one set of rules whichever you use.

Paste a list

One site per line. Everything after the address is optional and separated by a pipe, in this order: url | name | group | tags | checks. Lines starting with # are ignored, and https is assumed when you leave it off.

example.comshop.example.com | Example Shop | Clients | WooCommerce, WordPressexample.org/status | Example Status | Clients | | certificate dns domain

A line with no checks gets the ones chosen for the whole list. The words a line can use: certificate, dns, domain, links, mixed, sitemap, lighthouse and blocklist. Words it does not know are ignored rather than refused.

Upload a spreadsheet

A CSV file with a url column is all that is required; name, group, tags and checks are used when present and any other column is ignored. With no header row, columns are read in that order. Semicolons and tabs work as separators too.

Bring them over from Oh Dear

Paste an Oh Dear API token, from your Oh Dear account under API tokens. It is used once to read your site list, never stored, and not sent again when you import. Sites, groups and tags come across; Oh Dear’s per-check settings do not.

The preview

  • New — will be created.
  • Skip — already monitored here, so it is left alone rather than duplicated.
  • Error — the line cannot be used, and says why: usually an address that is private, internal or not an address at all.

The settings for the whole list — how often uptime runs, a group, tags and which checks — apply wherever a line does not give its own. Uptime runs on every imported monitor; switch it off on one from its Edit monitor page if it is kept for its domain alone. One bad line never stops the rest: each site is created on its own, and the result names any that were not.
